Mott MacDonald appointed on Ukraine sewerage project

Mott MacDonald has been appointed by Odessa City Council to carry out the design and development of tender documentation and procurement services for a new sewerage system in Odessa, Ukraine which will be funded by the World Bank.

The project is being developed to complete the existing sewerage system in the south district of the city, which is currently working at capacity and as a result has created huge environmental issues for the local residents.

Mott MacDonald, the leading management, engineering and design consultancy is responsible for the preparation of designs, drawings, technical specifications and bills of quantities for the city sewerage for all the upgrade and modernisation of the project which includes packages I and II. The consultancy will also provide pre-contract services and support the agency with the bidding process for the selection of a contractor for the completion of Package I, which accounts for 4.9km of the sewerage system. Package II contains the rest of the sewerage tunnels and shafts up to and including the main sewerage pumping station (MSPS). MSPS is proposed to be 50 metres in diameter with a depth of up to 65 metres and will be placed next to the waste water treatment plant.

Radko Bucek, Mott MacDonald’s project director said, “We are delighted to be appointed on this important project for Odessa. Given that the current sewerage system is insufficient and incomplete; this is a big event as its improvement will be extremely beneficial for the people in the city. This project offers a real opportunity to demonstrate our expertise and experience in water and wastewater projects around the world and we look forward to assisting the city council.”

Tanya Chekhet, Mott MacDonald’s Ukraine country manager said, “This project opens up an excellent opportunity for Mott MacDonald to be positioned to work with the Municipality of Odessa on more infrastructure projects.”

A signing ceremony between Mott MacDonald and the Odessa city council took place on 22 December 2009 at the City Hall.

The project has a capital value of approximately £1 million and is due to be completed by February 2011.
