Mott MacDonald is presenting two exemplar low energy, low carbon
buildings in the ZED (zero energy design) Pavilion commissioned by
Shanghai World Expo Land Holdings Limited at the Shanghai EXPO
2010.
Mott MacDonald provided engineering design services for the two buildings and worked with architects ZEDfactory (famous for the BedZED Peabody Housing scheme in Beddington, London) to adapt and revise the UK scheme so that the buildings can work in the Shanghai climate.
The buildings are examples of low energy housing design for the whole duration of the EXPO. The theme of the EXPO 2010 is “Better City, Better Life” representing the common wish for a better living in future urban environments, including further promotion of sustainability and “green building” ideas across China.
Mott MacDonald’s project manager, Samuel Jiang commented, “We are delighted to be commissioned for such an important project. This hard earned and long pursued chance to work with Shanghai Construction Group, one of the largest construction companies in China, and the high profile of EXPO makes this a great win for us. Our strong, locally based, energy modelling capability was vital in us securing the project.”
Mott MacDonald is committed to promoting best practice in sustainability. As a truly multi-disciplinary group it offers a comprehensive range of sustainability services across all sectors – buildings, water and environment, energy, education and health, transport and industry. The company currently has over 200 professionals working specifically on sustainability related projects across six continents, many of whom are considered to be world authorities in their fields.
