Mott MacDonald enjoyed a double success at the 2010 British
Expertise International Awards, winning the Development and the
Consultancy Project of the Year categories. The awards dinner took
place on 11 November at The Institute of Directors, London.
The Development Award was given for the Marsh Arab School project near Basra in Iraq. Mott MacDonald conceived, designed and project managed this unique school, which innovatively combines modern and traditional designs through its concrete frame and reed cladding. Country manager for Iraq Gordon Turley and project director Peter Hunt collected the award.
Gordon Turley said, “The Marsh Arab School was built by Marsh Arab artisans and has become a source of immense pride in Iraq, so for the project to receive recognition with this award is testament to the overall excellence of the project.”
Meanwhile, Mott MacDonald’s pioneering work on water governance across Eastern Europe and the Caucasian region won the Consultancy Project of the Year Award. The project, funded by the European Commission, helped governments across the region to align water resource use and quality management with the European Union’s Water Framework Directive. The award was handed to project director Wim Verheugt and project manager Shelly Arora-Tailby.
Wim Verheugt said, “With water becoming an increasingly significant political issue, this project’s success is important for future clients in the region. Winning awards like this can only help towards increasing the recognition of Mott MacDonald being a premier consultancy in the water sector.”
As well as these two award wins, Mott MacDonald’s work on Delhi International Airport was highly commended in the Major Consultancy Project category.
