As part of the environmental licensing process, the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources Institute, IBAMA, fishing was monitored in 24 communities from the municipalities of Salvador and Camamu – 12 communities from the north of the state (Recôncavo region) and twelve from the south (Baixo Sul region). This was needed to obtain the operating license for the production of natural gas and outflow system in the Manati field under the responsibility of Petrobras.
Challenges
Hiring local instructors in two specific locations, Madre de Deus and São Francisco do Conde, both in the Recôncavo region.
Solution
A multidisciplinary team, including media and biology professionals, was set up to lead the evaluation process in those two areas.
Value and benefits
Socioeconomic and biological indicators was used to evaluate the effects on artisanal traditional fishery caused by exploration and production of oil offshore Bahia State.
