The research aims to inform the vision and investment horizon for the M.A.G. Information Strategy with a focus on the digital infrastructure required to support business and revenue generation.
Challenge
Our role involved creating a smart technologies and digital infrastructure strategy based on the future development of Manchester Airport and its aerotropolis to determine how technology innovation could be a driver and/or enabler to the commercialisation of the airports’ infrastructure assets. At the same time, we needed to align with the development of master plans for the airport and city to anticipate the types of innovation that would be required to offer development opportunities for investment.
Solution
On the demand side we identified the innovation drivers of airport processes and opportunities for revenue generation on and off of the airport and within the wider aerotropolis and highlighted the regulation changes that offer opportunities for digital infrastructure commercialisation.
On the supply side we identified the developments and innovations being created in the supply and provision of technology and services. We characterised development opportunities and innovations in the context of M.A.G’s corporate strategy, in order to establish the digital infrastructure and technology strategy needed to sustain it.
Combining our experience in digital infrastructure innovation with our understanding of airport development and investment, we created a framework for the M.A.G. which recognised the future demand for digital infrastructure and the supply side innovations that facilitate future development and investment.
Value and benefits
Our aviation experts pinpointed potential opportunities arising from investment in technology and digital infrastructure and demonstrated how M.A.G. could capitalise on these by utilising the demand and innovative ideas and capabilities within the supply chain as part of their corporate development strategy.
