We provided tender and detailed design for the grade separation of a major junction just outside Dublin, including a six lane, dual carriageway flyover.
The traffic signal-controlled junction had been struggling to deal with the 90,000 vehicles using it every day. The grade separated junction has eliminated the signals to improve traffic flow. The works were delivered in phases to keep the junction open to traffic throughout construction.
The initial concept for random-rubble, limestone-clad approach walls was dropped in favour of using precast concrete and reinforced earth units cast with limestone facing. The pier crosshead beams were also precast. This improved safety on site and resulted in the bridge opening 2½ months ahead of schedule.
