Why did you decide to join Mott MacDonald?
I joined Mott MacDonald as an experienced specialist. I wanted to broaden my experience by developing new work areas for many clients, in many situations.
What is the best thing about your role?
I enjoy the variety of projects in the UK and internationally, interacting with a wide range of clients and colleagues, each with different skills and requirements.
How would you describe the culture of Mott MacDonald?
Mott MacDonald’s culture has high ethical standards which our clients often say they notice – we do what we say we’ll do.
How would you describe your role and responsibilities to friends or family?
I help my clients to prepare for a changing climate – so that the money they invest in assets will carry on working long after they have retired.
Are you involved with any charities or do any volunteer work?
I’m chairman of a local charity that runs a week-long festival of music, drama and comedy, culminating in a huge feast day. We raise money in the community, for spending in the community. It’s great because it brings the village together and people really buy into the local ethos. It’s been running for 21 years and could teach politicians a thing or two about localism and big society.
What would your perfect day consist of?
I suppose I had my perfect day when I swam with friends to an island in a lake, had lunch in the sun and then swam the mile back to the village. The swimming, the friends, the scenery, the warm weather – that was a great day.
