Why did you choose to join Mott MacDonald?
They have a great reputation for high calibre work, particularly in infrastructure, and I was interested in developing my role in that direction. Also I really liked the people I met when I came for the interview and I could imagine myself enjoying working with them.
What is the best thing about your job/role?
As part of the M&E team, there is a really good variety of projects, from straight building services design, for example school buildings, through rail network developments and more specialised MoD work.
How would you describe the culture of Mott MacDonald?
There is a strong culture of strict quality assurance – it’s not a place to come if you want to do shoddy work, but it is a great place to learn to do things in the right way.
How many years have you worked for Mott MacDonald, and what has been your proudest achievement to date?
I only joined Mott MacDonald in March 2013, having worked elsewhere before, so I am proudest of the way I hit the ground running, taking real responsibility for projects from the first day in the job.
What is your favourite Mott MacDonald social event?
On the last Friday of the month our team go for a drink after work. The first two drinks are on the company, which means just about everybody goes. It’s great to have the chance to socialise and to get to know colleagues on other teams.
Where is your favourite place on this earth?
I grew up in Awassa, in Ethiopia, and my favourite place is still down by the lake there. It’s a beautiful place to walk in the evening and watch the sun set over the water.
