Why did you choose to join Mott MacDonald?
I completed an internship at Mott MacDonald while I was at University and enjoyed it so much that I decided to return as a graduate once I had finished studying. I chose Mott MacDonald because I could tell that everyone in the business is invested in helping graduates to develop their skills. I knew that if I joined Motts, I would get lots of mentoring and learning opportunities. I also like that Motts is a global company, and I saw opportunities to travel with the company in the future and get experience working on projects all around the world.
What opportunities have opened up for you since joining Mott MacDonald?
I was lucky enough to join Mott MacDonald the same week that we got awarded the Ovingham level crossing removal project. I have been part of the project from its very early stages and saw the design through to completion. It has been a great opportunity to see all parts of design from the early concept stages of the project to the details. I’ve learnt so much from senior engineers who have spent time with me helping me to develop my skills.
What advice would you give someone completing an internship at Mott MacDonald?
I recommend getting involved in as many projects as possible in your internship. This will help you to find out what type of engineering interests you the most. Knowing which sector you want to work in and where you want to go in the future allows your line manager to give you opportunities to get there.
When you’re not in the office, where can you be found?
I try to get outside as much as possible, when the weathers nice you can find me on the golf course or out fishing. I also love to travel and my favourite destination has been Folegandros in the Greek islands.
How would you describe the culture of Mott MacDonald?
Mott MacDonald has a great culture. There are plenty of social events with something for everyone. We work hard and challenge ourselves but we have a lot of fun, and I am able to have a really good work life balance. I find senior leaders very approachable, and everyone is always keen to help.
What is the best thing about your job/role?
In the short time I have been at Mott Macdonald I have really enjoyed being able to take what I learned at university and apply it to real life projects. I find it really cool that I can make a difference to people’s lives and have an impact on my city.
