Why did you decide to join Mott MacDonald?
Being an engineer in the UK, I was always aware of Mott MacDonald as one of the top electrical engineering consultancies and had received great feedback from a good friend of mine that was already an employee. When an opportunity came up in the Croydon office, I realised that this was the job for me. After the interview, the range of potential projects and the prospect of working in a promising new team convinced me that I would be entering an excellent working environment that would meet my personal career development targets.
What’s the best thing about your role?
Variety is the best thing. During my time with Mott MacDonald I have worked on a range of distinct projects varying in nature, which allows me for perform different roles and gives access to unique learning experiences. The nature of the work helps you become a versatile engineer, able to adapt to any sort of role. Also, the fact that I work within a very capable team that I can always refer to for advice means a lot. The team spirit is very strong and colleagues are always happy to help each other out when needed.
How would you describe the culture of Mott MacDonald?
It is open and friendly. You are given responsibilities and opportunity to succeed, but your colleagues are always eager to help. You can see that the people here take pride in their work, and it is something that rubs off on the rest of us.
What is the best thing about the country you are from?
This is not an easy question to answer if you come from Brazil - too many things to choose from! I could pick the climate, beautiful beaches, amazing food, the football culture, and any of those would be a great choice. I am going to have to go with the warmth and kindness of Brazilian people, even when meeting a person for the first time, they will greet and treat you like you’re long lost friends, and make sure you feel like home and you are (extremely) well fed.
How have you been supported during your career development?
On an intuitional level, we are provided through various learning courses and workshops through the Learning Point system. Additionally, our internal upGRADe system keeps track of our development towards professional chartership. Personally, I believe the most important factors of career development, are your more experienced colleagues and yourself. In my case, I am fortunate to work with extremely capable and dedicated senior engineers, whose commitment to work shows the path which I must take to successfully develop my career.
What has been your favourite Mott MacDonald social event?
The annual Sports Day is by far the event I have most enjoyed. This intra-office sport competition that I like to refer to as the “Mott Macdonald Olympics” is a great opportunity to meet people that you don’t normally work with and also get to know your colleagues on a more personal level. Personally, I enjoy some friendly competition so I can’t imagine a better way to bond and have fun!
What would you say is your guilty pleasure?
At the age of 25, I still collect FIFA World Cup Stickers. I have done it for every single World Cup and I am not about to stop now!
If you could only eat one food for a whole day, what would it be?
It has to be Brazilian black beans with rice and steak!
What is a random fact about you?
Due to the fact that we lived in Vienna for most of our teenage years, I actually speak a mixture of Portuguese and English with my sisters.
