Why did you decide to join Mott MacDonald?
I didn’t know much about Mott MacDonald before I joined but when the opportunity arose I did some research and was astounded that this amazing company existed (and was right on my doorstep). I was impressed when I read about the Mott MacDonald mission and values and nearly 10 years on I know that these are embedded in everything we do.
What is the best thing about your role?
There are too many to list! Can I do 2?
The first is variety, I now recruit for our support services teams which include legal, marketing, IT, finance, digital projects, HR and facilities teams. This means I get to work on a really interesting mix of roles.
Secondly, my role is very rewarding. The majority of the roles I recruit for are based in my local office in Croydon which means I get to see new starters on their first day getting stuck in to their new role. It’s especially rewarding to see people happy at work when I know I’ve helped to get them there.
How would you describe the culture of Mott MacDonald?
Approachable, encouraging and hard-working. My role has evolved as my skills and interests have developed, which I believe is reflective of most Mott MacDonald employees. We also have a lot of fun, there are so many excursions and social events that are arranged, there is always something for everyone.
Where have you travelled with Mott MacDonald?
I have been all over the place. The most memorable trip was to Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain when I was recruiting for projects over there. I’ve also been to Arnhem in the Netherlands and practically everywhere in the UK. It’s not just the technical folk that get to go to the fun places!
When you’re not in the office where can you be found?
I’d be with my two sons, so probably jumping on our trampoline, or kicking a football in the park, or digging up worms. Slightly different to what I get up to at work.
If you could have any super power what would it be?
I’d love to be able to speak every language in the world fluently. I always feel a bit guilty assuming people speak English wherever I go.
Do you have any advice for candidates applying to our roles?
Please do spend quality time on your application. We do read them and this is the place to sell yourself. It really could mean the difference between making it to the next stage or not.
