Why did you decide to join Mott MacDonald?
I was lucky enough on leaving university to actually have a choice of where I wanted to start my career, thanks to having multiple job offers. I applied to Mott MacDonald for the same reason as many others: to work on some of the biggest projects, for the international reach, and for its reputation. But I ultimately decided to join because of how Mott MacDonald made me feel in a previous work placement and through the interview process. I felt welcomed and respected and knew this was somewhere that I would be able to excel and make a real difference.
What is the best thing about your role?
I am a problem solver and the best thing about my role is that I get new problems thrown at me each day, with two days rarely being the same. You can never wake up knowing what the day is going to throw at you, and I like that.
What advice would you offer to those looking to work at Mott MacDonald?
I’ll pass on the best piece of advice I was given here… relax and just be yourself - don’t try and be who you think they are after. It’s better to not get a job offer when you have been yourself than to get one for pretending to be someone you’re not, because you’ll quickly realise that was a mistake!
What makes Mott MacDonald stand out from other companies?
I think the fact that it is employee owned brings a relatively unique benefit. As usual everyone is working for the success of the company, but here everyone shares in that success. There’s no feeling that you’re working for nothing whilst lining the shareholders pockets.
What is your favourite past time?
I’m a keen sportsman. When I’m not in the office, I can often be found playing hockey.
Do you have a hidden talent? If so what is it?
Yes I do! Unfortunately it’s just very good at hiding so I haven’t found it yet.
