Why did you decide to join Mott MacDonald?
After finishing my master degree in earthquake engineering in Italy I started to think about where would be the best place to develop my career in this field. One of my MSc colleagues moved to Manchester and recommended me to power, process and nuclear (PPN) within Mott MacDonald where seismic design/assessment was needed. I have been working for Mott MacDonald since 2008 and after more than five years I still think it was the best decision I made.
What is the best thing about your role?
The best thing about my role is the variety of projects (not always nuclear) and a mixture of design and assessment using FE models and seismic knowledge. This makes every project different and interesting developing my career and challenging me every day.
How would you describe the culture of Mott MacDonald?
Being an employee owned company staff really care about the progress of the company with lots of efforts made to provide a high standard work and delivering on time. This makes you feel involved and enthusiastic about every project we have in the company and in every achievement. The activities within the sports and social group, including theatres, dinner clubs, sports day, etc., integrate all colleges together making a nice environment to work. I don’t know any other company offering so much to their employees.
What is the best thing about the country you are from?
The best thing from Argentina is the beef (also known as Asado)! I have never tried something similar outside Argentina! I travel there twice a year, eating as much beef as possible to make up for the time I’m not there!
How have you been supported during your career development?
I have been very well supported since I started working at Mott MacDonald from attending different courses and conferences. I have always been given the opportunity to keep updated.
When you are not in the office where can you be found?
I love to learn languages! So far I can speak Spanish, Italian and English and I am currently learning French in the Alliance Française of Manchester. I also like to read books and magazines, go to the cinema and attend different social events. I also do yoga and body balance. When I get the chance I also escape for the weekend to European capitals.
If you could have any super power what would it be?
If I could have a super power I would chose Teleportation. One of the hardest decisions I had to make was choosing my life and my career in the UK and leaving my family behind in Argentina. It would solve this to have this super power and visit them whenever I wanted to.
