What attracted you to apply for a role at Mott MacDonald?
Mott MacDonald had an excellent reputation as a great place to work in the industry, and also had a great reputation technically.
Name three things that make you look forward to coming into work each day.
- The individuals on our team are great to work with, they are all technically sharp and very collaborative.
- I get to work on a diverse mix of challenging projects.
- The support and business direction from senior management is excellent.
Describe your team culture.
We have a very hard-working group that’s diverse yet collaborative and work very well together. The team relies on the different strengths of individual team members to deliver challenging projects on schedule and on budget.
How has your career progressed since joining?
I joined Mott MacDonald as a senior project engineer. In the five years I’ve been with the company, I’ve progressed to a senior project manager, running small to mid-sized projects, and have also served as the lead highway and bridge engineer for a very large design-build project.
What makes Mott MacDonald stand out from other companies?
I’ve worked at other companies that try to make this claim, but Mott MacDonald truly feels like a small family firm with the support and resources of a large firm. Mott MacDonald makes a conscious effort to support and grow their staff and their business decisions reflect this.
Are you involved with any charities or do any voluntary work?
I’ve had the opportunity to volunteer with other Mott MacDonald staff to help build a house in Virginia through Habitat for Humanity. I also serve as the head judge each year for the New York Metropolitan area Steel Bridge Competition, an event where universities compete in the design, fabrication and construction of 1:10 scale model steel bridges.
Where is your favourite place in the world?
The island of Kauai of the Hawaiian Islands. One of the few places in the world where the moment you step off the plane, everything slows down and relaxes. Beautifully rugged natural parks, waterfalls and secluded beaches, the ultimate getaway for those who enjoy vacationing beyond the everyday, easy to reach places.
