What attracted you to apply for a role with us?
I have always been interested in big civil engineering projects that make a real difference to the way we live. I was supported by Mott MacDonald through my degree and, I enjoyed the work and the people. I quickly realised it was the perfect fit for me.
How did you find the recruitment process?
I completed two summer placements with Mott MacDonald before joining, which allowed me to understand the company better. The recruitment process was straightforward, which was made easier because of the contacts I knew.
What are the three things that make you look forward to coming into work each day?
The environment on major projects is fast moving and dynamic. It requires you to be on at the top of your game and work well in a team.
Working in a team environment and in a challenging role on projects that make a real difference to the built environment is what motivates me to come to work each day.
I really enjoy the challenge of working with many different people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, it often throws up unexpected solutions which provides real learning opportunities.
What’s your team like?
Diverse and supportive, full of ambition and drive. On a multidisciplinary project, it’s great to see people from very different technical disciplines come together to deliver a joined up solution.
What’s the best thing about your job?
I’m given the freedom to take opportunities within the company and industry. My focus is on digital technology and transforming the way we deliver projects. This has allowed me to travel across the world and work with the very top professionals in their fields.
How has your career progressed since joining?
Since joining seven years ago, I have achieved chartership status and grown from a graduate engineer to being part of our major project leadership team. In the next year, I hope to lead the development of a cross-industry digital improvement tool and take on further management responsibility by growing our major project digital delivery team.
How has digital technology aided you in your day-to-day role?
Mott MacDonald’s digital technologies allow me to be more agile at work. I can work more closely with colleagues around the globe, quickly gain more detailed insights into how our projects are running, and learn more quickly from other projects.
What excites you most about the digital technologies being developed within the company?
The speed of change. Looking back over the last five years, the extent of the change driven by digital technologies is huge. I’m excited to be at the forefront of this change and to be the first to test and implement these new technologies.
Which digital tool could you not live without?
At work on our current projects, I couldn’t live without ProjectWise. With the exponential rise in the amount of information we need to manage and produce, our data environment is critical to project success.
