Coming from a user experience recruitment background, the realm of engineering was something that seemed a world away and, in all honesty, quite baffling (even with experience of working with consultancies in the digital sector). When I was invited to an interview, I undertook more research on both the company and the industry and was impressed by the size and scale of the projects I would be recruiting for.
Since day one I’ve been working in partnership with our offices and project teams across the world. From the Tarbela 4th extension project (the world’s biggest earth filled dam!) in Pakistan to our numerous wind and solar projects and proposals across Europe and Africa. I’ve been very fortunate to recruit and support hydropower and renewables developments which are improving the livelihoods of people and communities through innovative and ambitious energy advancements.
While the teams and projects are different in each country, the culture, dedication, and nature of Mott MacDonald’s people is unanimous throughout. We strive to do the best for our clients, while offering a collaborative approach and this is mirrored in our recruitment process. I often tell my candidates that joining us is like becoming part of one family. A family that is 16,000+ strong, spread across all corners of six continents, but one that is encouraging and supportive of your own work and career goals.
Six months ago I was offered the opportunity to support our transportation and infrastructure teams with the growth and expansion of our US business on a part-time, interim basis, still based in the UK. The projects are different, but the scope and size are resonantly the same. I swapped solar plants in Nigeria for the Boston transit system and other enormous programmes. Without prior experience of working with our US teams, it quickly became clear that the Mott MacDonald ethos and values are as much embedded there as they are with every other team I’ve worked with. The opportunity and ambition for growth in the region is phenomenal and I’m proud to be a part of this development.
Flashforward to now and, 18 months after joining Mott MacDonald, I’m gearing up to make the permanent switch in sector recruitment. From January 2018, I will be based in our North American headquarters in Iselin, New Jersey. I will be supporting all East Coast transportation and infrastructure teams while assisting with the talent acquisition strategy for the whole of the US and Canada. After attending university in California, coupled with the recruitment ambition for the region, both the chance to move back and the role is an exciting challenge. Mott MacDonald has opened an opportunity for me to develop and progress with my career ambitions and the people have supported me every step of the way.
