Gateway Rail Assessment 2030
The Port of Vancouver is the third-largest port in North America, and Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has an ambitious vision to expand it even further. Mott MacDonald was retained by the port authority to carry out an extensive capacity study. We identified smart infrastructure opportunities on existing railway lines where investment could reduce congestion and improve the supply chain of trade coming in and out of the Port.
Our transport advisory consultants and rail engineers were essential to the on-schedule delivery of eight rail-related infrastructure proposals. Transport Canada responded to these with very positive feedback and praised the comprehensive detail of the documents we developed.
Burrard Inlet Rapid Transit Study
As businesses and communities expand along the Burrard Inlet, being able to quickly and easily travel between the North Shore and Vancouver is more and more vital.
Thanks to a robust local portfolio of engineering and transport design projects, we were asked to investigate how to improve travel between these two locations. The study will inform key decision makers on how to increase transit ridership, relieve traffic congestion, and support the communities of the North Shore.
Our team worked with a Partner Working Group to develop recommendations for a new rapid transport network between the North Shore and the City of Vancouver. Together we identified five potential crossings, and our experienced team of tunnel and bridge engineers drew up plans for three tunnel crossings and two bridges.
