Why did you decide to join Mott MacDonald?
Whilst collaborating with Mott MacDonald for almost 4 years as their client I got to know the company and its breadth and variety of activities. This appeared to provide very interesting prospects for future development, and thus upon completion of my previous duties, I was very keen to join the company when I was offered the opportunity.
What is the best thing about your role?
As projects director I have the chance to get involved in a variety of projects globally, some of which are very high profile. This in itself is a fulfilling experience, (almost completely) excluding routine, as there are always new challenges for clients and we have the opportunity to collaborate with new teams. Working with new teams can be very rewarding as you get to meet people from different cultures. It provides a much better outlook and understanding of the essential elements that make projects become a reality.
How would you describe the culture of Mott MacDonald?
While it is not easy to convey in a few words the company culture of such a global firm I think that the term ‘calmly progressive’ could be a fit description. Despite the fact that Mott MacDonald is a large international company operating in many different countries, each one with its distinctive culture, it conveys the feeling and atmosphere of a much smaller firm. People are very welcoming to new arrivals and eager to collaborate, something that I have found wherever I had the chance to engage with colleagues around the world.
What is one thing you’ve found out about Mott MacDonald from working here that you think everyone should know?
While I thought I had a good idea about the kind of sectors and activities that Mott MacDonald was involved in, after joining the company I am still amazed by the variety of projects and activities, as well as the skills that can be found within the company. This is usually the one thing that I tell people first. Then I tell them how overall friendly and collaborative the atmosphere is, and how supportive it can be for career development.
What is the best thing about the location you live in?
I am currently based in Brighton UK, where the very lively and multicultural character of this sea front city makes you feel very quickly at ease and gives you plenty of opportunities for enjoyable activities once work is finished.
If you could have any super power what would it be?
Well as far as super powers are concerned, I would love to be able to breathe underwater. Being a keen free and scuba diver I would love to be able to extend the short duration of freedom you feel when free diving and rid myself from the cumbersome scuba diving equipment.
