To fully understand system operation, interdependency and risk across large and complex assets requires multiple datasets to be brought together and supplemented where required with geospatial and non-geospatial data. Promoting the creation of a robust asset register – the ‘spine’ – to provide a single, reliable point of reference was essential to help plan programmes that are achievable.
We created a rationalisation strategy framework for Sellafield to develop into an implementation plan that encapsulates more than 80 legacy applications managing datasets associated with around 2M assets. Investment in new digital technologies can now begin, using a strategy that aligns functionality with specific objectives, facilitating connection to legacy systems and interoperability between best-in-class solutions.
The estate is one of the most complex nuclear facilities in the world and site clean-up is expected to take more than 100 years. By looking at digital transformation from a holistic enterprise perspective rather than as an IT project, decommissioning teams will be able to make best use of technology in support of the many complex decisions they must deal with every day.
