As a global engineering, health, education and development business, we impact all SDGs and we maximise positive outcomes for society by working in partnership with clients and communities, and by identifying the links between goals. Our Making Connections campaign demonstrates how our projects contribute to all the SDGs.
The recovery from the COVID-19 crisis presents unprecedented challenges, but we continue to regard the SDGs as a priority for delivering more resilient, sustainable and socially inclusive solutions.
This is underlined by our membership of the UN Global Compact, which requires participants to advance progress towards the SDGs as well as incorporate 10 principles covering human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. We reaffirmed our commitment in September 2020 and have published our latest Communication on progress.
To advance progress towards achieving the SDGs and to continue incorporating the Global Compact principles in all areas of our business, we have made three very important commitments over the past few months:
April 2020 – we announced our commitments to becoming carbon neutral by the end of 2020 and to being a net-zero organisation by the end of 2040.
June 2020 – we committed to identifying climate risks and opportunities in major projects by the end of 2022, and to working with our clients to identify and assess climate-related risks in all our projects by 2024.
July 2020 – we revealed our new purpose. This is “to improve society by considering social outcomes in everything we do; relentlessly focusing on excellence and digital innovation, transforming our clients’ businesses, our communities and employee opportunities.”
September 2020 – we became the first engineering, management and development consultancy to be certified carbon neutral globally to the international standard for carbon neutrality, PAS 2060.
