Our “signposts to sustainability” include the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We recognize our ability to directly inform the goals of good health and well-being, quality education, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, industry innovation and infrastructure, sustainable cities and communities, and climate action.
In addition, we can indirectly impact the goals of gender equality, decent work and economic growth, reduced inequalities, responsible consumption and production, life below water, and life on land.
We contribute to these goals by using our ingenuity to target the intersection of relevant economic, environmental, social, and cultural features that fulfill our clients’ needs and aspirations to the benefit of all stakeholders and society at large.
Support and leadership
As an employee-owned firm, our owners are also custodians of the company for the future, so we all value the sustainability of our company and our work. We have a large sustainability network that provides support and leadership for embracing sustainability in everything we do.
Our sustainability networks are led by the board and senior management, which provides the gravitas needed to assure that sustainability is treated as an integral part of our business.
It is no one-way street, however. We seek and encourage dialogue, openness, and integrity. Active communication on sustainability across the group allows for increased collaboration between colleagues. This stimulates global peer-to-peer engagement, including both bottom-up and top-down influence.
Our networks include the following:
- Group sustainability steering committee. This committee is answerable to the board and responsible for the formulation and implementation of our sustainability strategy. The committee reflects the diverse, global structure here at Mott MacDonald, with representatives from all five operational regions, as well as human resources, professional management, communication and our early career professionals’ network.
- Corporate structure. Managers across the business have defined responsibilities, ensuring sustainability is addressed in business plans and day-to-day activities.
- Sustainability champions. Passionate about sustainability, champions promote our sustainability strategy across geographical regions and technical disciplines, encouraging their colleagues to embed sustainable thinking into their work.
- Sustainability community. Our communication software allows us to connect colleagues with common interests worldwide. The sustainability community enables innovative ideas and knowledge to be shared, giving individuals the opportunity to shape the debate on sustainability and constructively challenge the company’s aspirations, plans and results.
As an engineering consultancy, we have tremendous opportunities to make a real difference with sustainability. Within my role I seek to share my passion for sustainability, balancing and enhancing the social, economic and environmental aspects and make try to make it achievable and real across everything we do.
"Sustainability runs through of all our projects here at Mott MacDonald. I feel extremely fortunate to work for a company that strives to build a better future for generations to come.
Sustainable development is fundamental to our obligation as professional engineers and scientists to improve the lives of people we touch in the most effective and holistic way. The social, environmental and economic decisions we make today can have an impact for generations – I want to make sure that we work together we get it right.
