Opportunity
Niagara Falls State Park is the oldest State Park in the United States. The NY Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation set out to develop alternatives and design an upgraded Robert Moses Parkway that meets modern transportation needs while respecting the original design.
Solution
As prime consultant on the project, Mott MacDonald led a multidisciplinary team that considered environmental factors, connectivity, economic development and tourism, and designs that incorporate multimodal transportation including bicycle, pedestrian, passenger vehicle, trolley, and bus traffic.
We worked with all project partners including the NYS Office of Park and State Historic Preservation Office, the City of Niagara Falls, USA Niagara Economic Development Corporation, and the public to make sure that all needs and requirements were met.
Mott MacDonald provided scoping, preliminary design, document preparation, and construction oversight. We considered a wide range of alternatives and advanced two build alternatives for preliminary design.
Outcome
By virtue of its setting in Niagara Falls State Park, a National Register listed site, Mott MacDonald made sustainability a key element of its design for the new roadway.
