Opportunity
The Tana and Beles river basins in Ethiopia can support the development of agricultural industries, tourism, and fisheries.
For this to happen, however, needs include adequate infrastructure, strengthening of local public and private-sector capacity, and a supportive business climate.
Solution
The World Bank employed Mott MacDonald to aid in the development of an integrated growth corridor strategy. This included selecting focus sectors as the economic basis of a growth corridor, and the formulation of sector strategies and interventions.
Outcome
As part of our project, we helped identify the institutional requirements for the creation of a growth corridor development agency that would enhance and improve the following:
-
Private investment
-
Productive land use
-
Business investment climate
-
Institutional strengthening
-
Capacity development
-
Good governance
-
Business development support
