The Central Phoenix/East Valley Light Rail Transit line runs for 20 miles (32 kilometers) through the cities of Phoenix, Mesa, and Tempe. A $1.37 billion project, the LRT is expected to generate new development east of the central business district in Phoenix.
Mott MacDonald was the design manager for the low-profile overhead contact system that powers the line. We were responsible for detailed design, review of layouts, and engineering support during construction. Mott MacDonald carefully considered aesthetics, simplicity, and constructability in the design.
The project was completed on time and within budget. By 2020, the Phoenix Light Rail System is expected to generate about 15,300 hours of travel-time benefits each day.
