Opportunity
Faced with projected supply deficits in western Gloucester County, New Jersey American Water proposed a transmission main project that would enable transfers of water from the Delaware River Regional Pipeline.
Solution
Mott MacDonald was engaged to prepare the design, plans, specifications, bid documents, and permit applications for the Logan Transmission Main and Union Road Transmission Main, totaling about 53,000 linear feet (16 kilometers) of 20- and 24-inch pipe (0.5 and 0.6 meters).
The project included two prefabricated underground meter chambers and modifications to an existing pump station.
Outcome
Horizontal directional drilling was used to avoid impacting wetlands, and the use of ductile iron pipe with significant recycled material contributed to the project’s overall sustainability.
