WBUR, the NPR radio station of Boston, Massachusetts, has spotlighted Dr. Adrian Mims and The Calculus Project in a feature article on its website. The Calculus Project is a grassroots-style initiative of Cambridge Education, aimed at dramatically increasing the number of students of color and low-income students who complete AP Calculus in high school.
According to the article, "The Calculus Project is new, but Mims points to evidence that it works. He compares eighth-grade participants in Malden — 81 percent of whom scored higher than 70 on a midterm algebra exam — with ninth-graders not in the program, just 28 percent of whom reach the same scores."
The Calculus Project is currently active in Massachusetts and Florida, with negotiations underway to expand into North Carolina, New Jersey, and New York.
The Calculus Project is now an independent not-for-profit organization directed by Dr. Adrian Mims. To learn more, please visit the website.
