Lisa Karwoski, a Senior Project Engineer based in Los Angeles, is interviewed in the May 2018 issue of Civil Engineering magazine. The two-page interview appears in "Next Step," a regular feature that presents "advice from young engineers moving forward in their careers."
Lisa joined Mott MacDonald in 2011, and since 2014 has led the civil design for the LA Regional Connector light rail project. She says, "Honest communication has been the chief skill that has allowed me to move into this new position."
Along with "hard" technical skills that have contributed to her career, she cites the importance of "Patience and listening to what's going on, and to let other people know what's happening."
Lisa says her mentors have played a huge part in developing her career, and that her involvement with the Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) has helped improve her public speaking and hone skills that you don't get in a college setting.
