Drilling geotechnical borings from a barge in the Hudson River.
Glenn Duyvestyn, Principal Project Manager based in our West Houston office, has published an article called "Going Under Water: Engineering Challenges of Waterbody Crossings" in the magazine North American O il and Gas Pipelines. In it, he addresses the "unique set of engineering challenges" tha t must be addressed to achieve a successful trenchless installation across a body of water.
Glenn writes, "Once the geotechnical risks and crossing specific constraints have been thor oughly identified, the most appropriate trenchless or non-trenchless construction method can be sel ected for the crossing. The design can then be tailored to the selected construction method with ap propriate risk mitigation measures incorporated into site specific crossing details, designs, drawi ngs and specifications."
