On February 2 and 3, Seattle celebrated the grand opening of the new SR99 highway tunnel, otherwise known as the Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Tunnel.

The new tunnel is the culmination of over ten years of planning and construction, in which Mott MacDonald was a key partner of the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) in the role of Program Management and Coordination.

The tunnel was opened on Saturday afternoon to allow members of the public to walk through and learn about how it was made. Other activities included STEM activities, an art festival on the viaduct, an 8-kilometer fun run, and a 12-mile bike ride.
