As the size and complexity of the transportation network increased in the Tyne and Wear region, the need for an Urban Traffic and Control (UTMC) system became more apparent.
Our team evolved a system centered on a UTMC common database, which acts as the main strategic management tool and information repository for the entire Tyne and Wear region. The system helps all local authorities with network coordination and management.
Using our proven software product Osprey, we integrated a wide range of existing transport systems to provide a regional network view.
Osprey provides a rich set of management and control functionality and establishes a cohesive view of the transport network across the region, from a newly installed single regional control center. Control room operators have access to the common data viewer, allowing them to monitor the network and strategies for the benefit of the traveling public.
Data collected from Osprey is circulated in several ways. A dedicated public access traffic and travel information website www.tyneandweartravel.info provides access to the wealth of data contained in the UTMC database. It allows the public to make informed journey choices, and provides information on upcoming major works in the area. Updates are also provided automatically and manually via Twitter @NECATraffic.
