On October 31, a new elevator was opened for use at Harvard Square in Cambridge, MA. The new elevator significantly improves accessibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act and increases reliable access to the subway system. The elevator features an unusual head house design with copper cladding.
Mott MacDonald provided geotechnical, structural, and mechanical and electrical services, while Kleinfelder provided architectural services.
As part of a 2006 agreement with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and the Boston Center for Independent Living, new and redundant elevators are being installed at various transit stations in the system.
Mott MacDonald is providing full engineering services from planning, schematic design, and detailed engineering design services for the installation of new elevators and staircases at the Harvard Square, Porter Square, State Street, Downtown Crossing, Central, and Park Street stations. This project also includes replacing existing elevator cabs and equipment at several of the stations.
