The tragic events that we witnessed over the last week, initiated by the killing of George Floyd, an African American in police custody, have horrified us and once again demonstrated that we, as a civilized society, have a long road ahead to foster equality and justice in America.
We share a sense of sadness, grief, and anger. This is not only a time for self-reflection on racism, both consciously and unconsciously, but also an opportunity to come together in peace and work even harder to tackle all systemic forms of racial inequality and injustice.
I am inspired by the thousands of peaceful protesters who have gathered throughout our cities to demand justice and positive change. However, we can't let the hatred, violence, and vandalism that has marred some of these protests detract from the genuine heartbreak and helplessness that inspired many to speak out peacefully.
I take great pride in the work Mott MacDonald is doing to promote equality, diversity, and inclusion. I also draw comfort in the character and actions of our colleagues throughout the world.
We denounce all aspects of racism, hatred, injustice, and violence. Let us continue to live by a code of respect, peace, and progress.
