Opportunity
In the United States Air Force, the squadrons responsible for heavy construction are called RED HORSE, which stands for Rapid Engineer Deployable Heavy Operational Repair Squadron Engineer.
Established in 1966, RED HORSE is responsible for a wide range of civil engineering tasks, from drilling wells to repairing heavy damage in combat situations.
The 200th RED HORSE Air National Guard squadron is based at Camp Perry in Ohio. To support more than 200 airmen, the squadron needed space for storage, shipping/receiving, and vehicle maintenance.
Solution
Mott MacDonald was chosen to provide architectural, structural, mechanical, and other services for a new RED HORSE Logistics Complex.
The Base Supply Warehouse and the Maintenance Shop and Refueler Maintenance Bay areas will be pre-engineered metal buildings. The vehicle maintenance shop will feature a 7-ton bridge crane supported from the metal building frame..
Outcome
The new facility will have an area of 23,000 square feet. It will include a supply warehouse with loading docks and maintenance areas, plus administrative space to serve Air Force logistics personnel.
The layout will allow tractor trailers to navigate through the main gate and park at the Base Supply Warehouse loading dock without blocking any roads or interfering with daily operations.
