Passenger rail with zero emissions
It’s time to transform your approach to energy
If you’re part of a large infrastructure organization, there’s never been a more important time to increase the security and resilience of your operations by changing the way you use energy.
You need to take action to remain competitive, protect yourself against rising energy prices, ensure regulatory compliance, safeguard your reputation, and attract customers, investors, and staff.
It’s about transforming the way you use energy across your whole operation: buildings, processes, vehicle fleets, machinery, and more.
A smarter approach to energy can help you increase your energy security, manage price volatility, earn additional revenue, reduce your carbon footprint, become more resilient, and take advantage of new market opportunities.
What can we do for you?
Mott MacDonald designs and delivers complex long-term energy transformation programs for infrastructure organizations that are large energy users.
An energy transformation program is a long-term, strategic initiative to significantly change the way you consume, supply, and store energy. It typically spans multiple years and covers electricity, hydrogen, and other energy vectors.
We can help you understand where you are on the energy journey, which factors deserve your attention, and which opportunities may be right for you. We help you improve your site planning, building use, and energy efficiency, and adopt emerging technologies and processes.
Your transformation journey
We can help you with each of the four “pillars” of energy transformation programs.
1 . Overall strategy, data, and monitoring
We act as a project shaper, helping you to develop your strategy, build the business case for investment, and forge partnerships to enable successful delivery.
We’ll assess your physical infrastructure needs, design and support the delivery of your capital program, and help you with procurement, supply chain, and financing strategies.
We take a holistic view, considering operational impacts, embedded carbon in infrastructure, behavior change, and planning for sustainability and resilience.
2. Electricity consumption, generation, storage, and networks
As your organization moves to evolve your operations, we can help you identify the most optimal energy sources, meet the engineering challenges, and manage risk.
With our help, you can assess the viability of options such as demand-side response and flexibility, on-site generation and storage, and vehicle-to-grid solutions.
We will assess your network capacity needs and provide engineering services for upgrades, new connections, microgrids, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. We provide digital asset planning and optimization support.
3. Fuel consumption, supply, storage, and pipelines
We help you plan for the transition to lower-carbon fuels, model your demand for different scenarios, and provide advice on fuel switching.
We can advise on all key alternative fuels — from hydrogen to green ammonia, e-fuels, biofuels, and sustainable aviation fuels — and on the public and private funding mechanisms available.
Beginning with concept development and planning, we provide engineering services for terminals and storage facilities, production facilities, pipelines, and networks. We can help you with design, consenting, procurement, construction management, and fuel handling, and we can help you decommission existing fossil fuel infrastructure.
4. Buildings, heating, and cooling
Airports, rail systems, and other transportation infrastructure require buildings of various kinds.
We work with you to improve the whole-life environmental and energy performance of your train stations, aircraft hangars, maintenance facilities, and other buildings. Our experts conduct energy efficiency audits, deliver waste minimization projects, and design retrofit programs.
We design infrastructure to standards that cut carbon emissions and reduce energy costs, such as LEED, Energy STAR, and state and city energy codes. We assess energy use for heating and cooling requirements and provide advice on technology selection and sizing.
Our experience
We have advised a range of clients on their net zero and energy transformation programs across North America and around the world. We bring together global understanding with specific local knowledge and application.
We would be delighted to discuss with you how our expertise can help transform your approach to energy.
