Project Manager Environment & Water

Job Profile

The advisory and programme delivery division delivers services to projects ranging in scale and complexity from £million’s to £20bn, through the technical disciplines of programme management, project management, project controls, scheduling, cost management, estimating, infrastructure finance, management consulting, digital consulting, education and healthcare management.

Our environment and water portfolio is primarily a UK based business delivering project, programme and commercial management services to regulated water/wastewater clients and the Environment Agency.
Our work stretches across the entire project lifecycle, from pre-contract cost estimating and benchmarking to post contract QS services and commercial assurance.
For project and programme management we deliver capital projects on behalf of our clients, both internal and external that range from several hundred thousand pounds in value to major projects and programmes worth over £0.5billion.
Additionally we are the home of the cost intelligence service, a specialist team of data analysts and economists who provide expert advice across all sectors on inflation and indexation.
We currently work with around half of the UK’s regulated water and wastewater companies

Job Description

Fully qualified professional with a recognised qualification and relevant experience. Capable of working with little supervision on complex and non-standard assignments.
Is recognised as, and provides, a valued source of advice and training for more junior employees. Responsibilities include:
  • Provide key support in the delivery of commission obligations and internal project performance
  • Successful delivery of projects to time, quality and budget
  • Contribute to open communications across the project delivery and client teams
  • Establish effective communications across the project delivery, client and stakeholder teams
  • Implement problem solving and decision making
  • Adopt programme and business management systems across project teams
  • Control the internal and external commercial aspects of project across a range of contractual arrangements
  • Mentor less experience colleagues in the skills of project management
  • Contribute to securing opportunities and repeat business through the high quality of service delivery
Role may require monitoring of the performance of a main contractor and the progress of a project, being accountable during the implementation and handover phases, managing the interface between the contractor and internal and external stakeholders in the resolution of issues affecting progress. May be named Project Manager within an NEC3 Contract, and as such will have the contractual powers under the contract.

Candidate Specification

Candidate specification:
  • A degree in a construction, engineering or project management subject
  • A relevant professional qualification with the APM
  • Project management experience across a range of disciplines and ideally market sectors, and proven track record of managing different contractual arrangements /procurement routes
  • Experience managing and leading project teams to successful outcomes
  • Good client and stakeholder relationship building skills
  • Effective communication with client’s project team and business manager
  • Commercially aware
  • Good knowledge of planning and other aspects of project controls
  • Demonstrable track record of successful business development and achievement of targets or contribution thereto
  • Experience of delivering projects and programmes using NEC3 forms of contract.

Desirable:
  • Membership of the APM, working towards RPP
  • NEC3: ECC Project Manager accredited
  • Experienced in the use of contract management software eg. CEMAR
