Senior Reading Specialist

Job Profile

Mott MacDonald is seeking applicants for the role of Senior Reading Specialist for the anticipated five-year Bangladesh Shekhar Jonno Pori (“Read to Learn”) activity. The primary purpose of the activity is to provide direct technical assistance to the Bangladeshi government and its sector-wide Fourth Primary Education Development Program (PEDP4), schools, and teachers to improve early grade reading outcomes.

Job Description

The Senior Reading Specialist will provide technical leadership and oversight of programmatic activities to ensure quality, timeliness, and efficiency of products and activities generated under this activity, particularly those relevant to early grade reading education in the national language. S/he must be a recognized expert in early-grade reading with the ability to supervise and build capacity of a diverse team of professionals.

Candidate Specification

  • Master’s degree in education, early literacy, or a relevant field is required; PhD preferred
  • At least 10 years of professional experience; at least 8 of which are relevant to improving early grade reading outcomes
  • Experience in providing technical guidance to program staff in early grade reading material development, teacher professional development, teacher and classroom supervision and monitoring, and student assessment initiatives, including the Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA).
  • Demonstrated understanding of education trends and issues related to reading education, teacher professional development, book procurement, and/or student assessment in Bangladesh.
  • Familiarity with USAID tools and methodologies to improve reading outcomes
  • Experience developing education programs and materials that are sensitive to issues of gender and inclusion
  • Extensive experience with stakeholder engagement, including the Ministry of Education, international donors and local government.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organization skills with a demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in teams.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; proficiency in Bengali strongly preferred
