Account leader; highways programme director

Job Profile

Delivering the modern network relied on by communities and businesses

With an increase in UK Highways expenditure and the impending roll out of significant new programmes by Highways England, we want to continue to take advantage of these opportunities by developing, and investing, in our highways business. We’re looking for someone to grow our project and programme management business in this sector, and help secure our position as the go-to expert.

This new role is critical for building and maintaining relationships with our clients, planning the accounts and building a client centric experience. We want someone who has an excellent track record winning and delivering significant highways programmes, as well as extensive relationships with our key clients in this area. Ideally the person in this will be London or Birmingham based, but we will consider other locations.

Job Description

Building relationships, building business
You’ll play a pivotal role in balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders, and you must start as you mean to go on, by developing strong and robust relationships. You will be expected to win great work, spread the word about it, and play a lead role in gaining trust with our clients and key stakeholders.

Winning and delivering work
Growing and developing key accounts is essential. You’ll be expected to identify opportunities, develop business plans, and drive the bidding process. When we’ve won the work, you’ll need to deliver quality outcomes for clients through our project teams.

Providing leadership
We need your steady head to keep everyone focused on delivering projects with the people who’ll be benefiting from them in mind. You’ll put together the right team for each job, and will get the best out of them. Be a visible leader and role model, demonstrating and promoting our values and high ethical standards.

Candidate Specification

Have you got what it takes?
You’re the kind of person who prioritises, influences without authority, and doesn’t think twice about working collaboratively. You need to be a leading project and programme management practitioner, and demonstrate that you’ve played an active role in moving a highways business forward. We also want someone who has the insight on the opportunities, challenges, and future potential in the highways market.

You’ll need to have:
  • A degree with a further professional qualification
  • Significant experience across sectors and services in highways including senior delivery positions
  • Experience managing major programmes for the Highways England estate is essential.
