Finding the people that grow with us, as we grow with them

In the UK, the national infrastructure and construction pipeline is worth £460bn with an estimate of public and private investment reaching around £600bn over the next 10 years (IPA). All this investment is lined up for major projects and programmes that need the full range of infrastructure capability from design through to programme management, which is why we’ve been investing in our business to make sure we’re positioned to support our clients and that we stand out from a busy crowd.

We also need to find, attract, and retain the right people. To do this, we have an established in-house team of recruiters who are based across the UK in Croydon, London, Brighton, Cambridge, and Glasgow. We feel now is the right time to create a new role for someone to lead and develop the way we do things in the UK & Europe. In this role you’ll work with the senior leadership team to understand where we’re heading, and will have ultimate responsibility for recruiting the people we need; from apprentices and graduates, to professionals and executive hires.

We want someone who influences with authority and doesn’t think twice about working collaboratively while getting things done efficiently. You need to be a leading talent acquisition professional, and have an enthusiasm for opportunities and challenges. Reporting to our regional HR manager, we’re looking for someone to join us on a full-time basis, ideally in Croydon or London but other locations can be considered.

Job Description

Lead by example
Your main priority will be to lead and coach a large team that are spread across multiple locations. One of the first things you’ll do is support the regional HR manager with evaluating the current structure of the team, decide whether it’s efficient, and if necessary, restructure it. During this process and beyond, you’re ultimately responsible for making sure we’re consistently recruiting the people we need in the region so it's important that you influence, motivate, and develop everyone in the team. Recruitment is a problem easily understood but sometimes not easily solved so you'll need to get everyone working together to achieve the best possible outcomes. You'll need to ensure that managers see the recruitment team as a source of expert knowledge and support during what can sometimes be a challenging process. We want someone who takes pride in what they do, while ensuring our values and brand are adhered to by the team.

Develop and champion the strategy

Your role will involve driving forward the way we do things; we want to recruit the right people for our business. Once you have a good understanding of where we’re heading and who we’re going to need, you will develop a clear strategy for the region that will deliver agreed KPIs and can flex with changing needs. You will be managing the budget and ensuring you can demonstrate the return on investment we’re getting for hiring the right people. You’ll also work closely with other recruiting teams, HR and learning & development to ensure the recruiting activity is aligned with people strategies and complies with both internal and external requirements such as EU GDPR. Finally, you will need to champion the talent acquisition strategy and work closely with senior stakeholders to ensure it’s embedded across the business as part of the overall regional strategy.

Candidate Specification

Do you have what it takes?
This role needs someone who can really engage with and lead a professional community. Someone who is passionate about best practice, thought leadership, and innovation in their field, and wants the opportunity to develop and drive new processes and tools for a growing business. It goes without saying that you’ll need to be an excellent communicator, listener, presenter, and writer.

You’ll also need to show us that you have the following:
  • Senior delivery experience in a multidisciplinary professional services environment
  • Experience managing a large team across multiple locations
  • Experience successfully leading complex projects
  • Experience or knowledge of recruiting for a range of role types including grads and apprentices
  • The ability to be digitally proactive, with the willingness to adopt new technologies.
