Senior / Geomorphologist

Job Profile

Our geomorphology team provides specialist services to the Environment Agency, Highways England, water utilities, local authorities, and rail, highways and power providers, in addition to private sector developers. Demand for these services is increasing, so we are keen to speak with talented geomorphology professionals about a new vacancy in Leeds. We can also consider basing people in either Cambridge or Altrincham, and the role can be offered on either a full-time or a part-time basis.

Job Description

You will lead the technical delivery of geomorphology and Water Framework Directive assessments across Northern England, and support projects throughout the UK and, potentially, internationally. This will include providing geomorphological input to design risk registers and assist concept, outline and detailed designs.

You will also assist with preparing business plans for flood risk management, natural flood management and river restoration/habitat creation schemes, and potentially project manage river or coastal protection schemes.

Candidate Specification

  • Relevant Master's degree (including studies of geomorphology or catchment management)
  • Chartered (or working towards chartership) with a relevant institution
  • Proven expertise in applied fluvial and estuarine geomorphology, including field work and desk studies
  • Experience working on flood risk management projects
  • Competent in use of MS Excel, GIS, and ideally hydraulic modelling packages
  • Ability to write high-quality reports
  • Basic experience of either water quality, aquatic ecology or hydrology (to complement geomorphological skills)
