Mott MacDonald is seeking a Project Tunnel Lead based in our Toronto office within the Infrastructure Division of Mott MacDonald in Canada.
In this versatile role the Project Tunnel Lead will assume leading responsibility for the design of complex underground structures and participate in business development.
Typical daily activities will include:
- Lead or support specific tasks and other project staff in the development of geo-investigations, evaluation of geotechnical data, geo-structural analysis, design, evaluation and preparation of calculations and drawings and construction bid documents for initial and final support, excavation support systems, foundations, as well as other underground structures predominately for infrastructure projects
- Contribute to the preparation of standard documents, such as technical specifications & guidelines, contractual documents, publications and working papers
- Interacting with Mott MacDonald's multi-disciplinary teams and assists in the coordination of work amongst different disciplines
- Communicating with other Mott MacDonald offices, Engineering Firms, Contractors, Clients and Authorities
- Proactive engagement in business development activities in the tunnelling sector
Candidate Specification
- Master’s Degree in Civil / Structural, Geological or Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited university
- Professional engineering designation or credentials for registration as a professional engineer is required; PMP and/or CCM is an asset.
- Min. 20 years of experience in Tunnelling or Structural/Geotechnical engineering design & construction for tunnels, caverns, shafts, micro-tunnels, deep braced excavations, and other underground structures
- Advanced knowledge and experience with soil and rock mechanics, ground/structural numerical methods, and their application in surface and underground environments
- Advanced knowledge and experience in design & construction of underground structures in both soil and rock environments
- Advanced knowledge and experience in design of tunnels by TBM, SEM, Cut & Cover and micro-tunnelling methodologies.
- Advanced knowledge and experience in geotechnical monitoring, design of monitoring layouts, instrumentation & measurements, analysis, and interpretation of monitoring result
- Broad knowledge on underground construction technics
- Experience in leading complex multi-disciplinary design & construction projects
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Excellent verbal, written and client facing communication skills
