Mott MacDonald is locally registered with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry as an International Grade Consultant. We have over 500 multidisciplinary technical staff encompassing the process, civil, mechanical, piping, pipeline, electrical, and instrumentation (including telecommunication) departments and are one of the largest engineering consulting offices in the Sultanate of Oman.
We are the first engineering company in Oman with all four ISO certifications: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, and ISO/TS 29001. We have worked to certify our offices to ISO 10006 Quality Management Systems – Guidelines for Quality Management in Projects, which offers a structured approach for the optimal management of all processes involved in project management consulting services.
Apart from meeting the Omanization requirements of the Ministry of Manpower, we are highly committed to developing the skill set of Omani graduates with the aim of promoting in-country value. Our fully dedicated training manager has devised tailor-made training programs to ensure that learning and development processes are followed on a regular basis. Our vision for the next five years is to maximize the in-country value along with the development and sustainment of skilled Omani staff.
Oil and gas
In 2012 we won two new seven-year contracts with Petroleum Development Oman, providing engineering services across the sultanate. Our work with them is not limited to oil and gas, as we are executing many water and power projects associated with oilfields, providing a one-stop shop for large multidisciplinary projects and a showcase for the capabilities we offer.
We won the prestigious Engineering Achievement Award at the 2011 Oil & Gas Middle East Awards, which recognizes world-leading projects in the energy sector. The award was given for our enhanced oil recovery consulting project at the Qarn Alam field in Oman, which is owned by Petroleum Development Oman. This is the world's first full-field steam injection enhanced oil recovery project.
We also provided detail design and procurement services for a key part of a cutting-edge enhanced oil recovery process: polymer flooding in Marmul. It was our client’s first and the world’s largest polymer flooding project. We designed the polymer preparation facility, which serves 27 injection wells. The project has increased recovery by 10%, delivering the highest rate of production in the field’s 30-year history.
Power and water
We are working on some of the region’s newest power plants, including the Sur Independent Combined Cycle Power Project in Oman, which will be among the most efficient in the world.
We've been the sultanate’s foremost consultant for water supply projects since the start of our operations here in 1977. We maintain that status today. The Public Authority for Electricity and Water awarded us the contract to carry out concept studies for major water supply projects within Oman for three years, commencing in 2012. Projects completed range from small village water supplies, to water supply for the whole of the capital area. We were the owner’s engineer for the Ghubrah Independent Water Project in Muscat. National studies include the water supply master plan, completed in 2004, and the water balance for the sultanate, completed in 2013.
