Oil recovery facility A wadi in Oman Power plant

Mott MacDonald has been operating in Oman for over 40 years providing design engineering and consultancy services. We predominantly serve the oil and gas, water and power sectors, with major clients such as Petroleum Development Oman,  Occidental of Oman, Public Authority for Electricity and Water, Oman Electricity and Transmission Company, various Ministries and EPC Contractors.

We are a locally registered company with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry as an International Grade Consultant.  We have over 500 multidisciplinary technical staff encompassing the process, civil, mechanical, piping, pipeline, electrical and instrumentation (including telecommunication) departments and are one of the largest engineering consulting offices in the Sultanate of Oman.

We are the first engineering company in Oman with all four ISO certifications: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO/TS 29001, and we are currently working to certify all our offices to ISO 10006 Quality Management Systems – Guidelines for Quality Management in Projects which offers a structured approach for the optimal management of all processes involved in project management consultancy services.

We are highly committed to developing the skill set of Omani graduates apart from meeting to the Omanisation requirements of the Ministry of Manpower with the aim to promote In-Country Value. Our fully dedicated training manager has devised tailor-made training programs to ensure that learning and development processes are followed on a regular basis. Presently one of our staffing goals is to recruit and retain Omani talent and ensure their growth within the company. Our vision for the next five years is to maximise the in-country value along with the development and sustainment of skilled Omani staff.

Oil and gas

In 2012 we won two new seven year contracts with Petroleum Developmen Oman (PDO), providing engineering services right across the sultanate. Our work with them is not limited to oil and gas as we are executing many water and power projects associated with oilfields, providing a one-stop-shop for large, multidisciplinary projects and a showcase for the capabilities we offer.

We won the prestigious Engineering Achievement Award at the 2011 Oil & Gas Middle East Awards, which recognises world-leading projects in the energy sector for our enhanced oil recovery (EOR) consultancy project at the Qarn Alam field in Oman which is owned by PDO.  This is the world's first full-field steam injection enhanced oil recovery (EOR) project.

Furthermore in 2012, Nimr C Full Field Water Injection Project, for which we were the engineering consultant, was named ‘national winner’ at the MEED Quality Awards for Projects.

We also provided detail design and procurement services for a key part of a cutting-edge EOR process, polymer flooding in Marmul. It was our client’s first and the world’s largest polymer flooding project. We designed the polymer preparation facility, which serves 27 injection wells. The project has increased recovery by 10%, delivering the highest rate of production in the field’s 30 year history. The project won the Gold Prize at PDO’s 2012 Chairman’s Award for Excellence.

Power and water

We are working on some of the region’s newest power plants including the Sur Independent Combined Cycle Power Project in Oman which will be among the most efficient in the world.

We have been the Sultanate’s foremost consultant for water supply projects since the start of our operations here in 1977 and we maintain that status even today, having been awarded by the Public Authority for Electricity and Water the contract to carry out concept studies for major water supply projects within Oman for three years, commencing in 2012.  Projects completed range from small village water supplies, to water supply for the whole of capital area.  We were recently appointed as owner’s engineer for the 42 MIGD Ghubrah Independent Water Project, in Muscat. National studies include the water supply master plan completed in 2004 and the water balance for the Sultanate, completed in 2013.
