For Poland’s General Directorate for Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA), we provided management and supervision services for the upgrading and modernization of over 25 miles (40 kilometers) of the national road network near Gdansk and the construction of some 37 miles (60 kilometers) of the new A2 motorway that will link Warsaw with Berlin. We are also engaged in supervisory projects on subsequent sections of the A1 and A2 motorways in southern and central Poland.
Recently we studied the introduction of municipal road P3s in Lodz, Krakow, and Poznan for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
We have provided detailed design for the A4 motorway and S19 expressway sections in the vicinity of Rzeszow, the Paszkowianka regional road, and Czechoslowacka Street in Poznan with a tunnel 328 feet (100 meters) long. We designed the Slowacki’s Route: a dual carriageway linking the local airport and harbor in Gdansk.
We were technical advisor for foundations and ground conditions plus superstructure and utilities for the PGE ARENA Gdansk, built for the European Football Championship UEFA EURO 2012.™ The 42,000-seat stadium is also a multifunctional sports facility serving as a center of business, entertainment, and recreation.
We provided advisory services to the city of Warsaw for public transport solutions for the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship.
We have helped develop a number of ports in Poland in recent years. The Port of Gdansk Authority Company and the City of Gdansk Council appointed us to help manage and supervise the €30 million modernization of the port and its supporting infrastructure. Along the coast at Poland’s popular resort of Sopot we designed a marina for 100 yachts.
At Police Port we designed a two-berth quay, divided into an area for unloading raw materials and a fertilizer berth for handling products. It also has a 21,527-square-foot (2,000-square-meter) warehouse and an open storage of 53,819 square feet (5,000 square meters).
Rail and light rapid transit
European Union funding aimed at improving connectivity and reducing the volume of freight carried by road is fueling significant work in the heavy rail sector. We are designing an upgrade of 42 miles (67 kilometers) of mainline railway between Radom and Czachowek to allow higher train speeds. And we’re supervising design and installation of European Train Control System signaling on 124 miles (200 kilometers) of the E65 mainline railway between Warsaw and Katowice.
We’ve carried out the feasibility study for construction of Warsaw Metro Line 2: a 20-mile (32.5-kilometer) underground route with 27 stations and two depots. We were appointed by PKP PLK SA, Poland’s national rail line company, to provide site supervision on a scheme, worth over €160 million, to improve Poland’s rail infrastructure.
In the development of light rapid transit systems, we provided construction supervision for the Silesia tram system and designed stage III of Kraków’s rapid tram system.
Our teams assisted the Ministry of Economy in identifying and preparing 200 regional infrastructure projects for the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
We have provided technical advisory services to the municipal authorities of Lodz, Poznan, Bydgoszcz, and Bialystok for the implementation of waste management programs and construction of waste incineration plants.
The team is currently assigned by the Poznan water company Aquanet as a technical advisor to implement asset management system complying with the PAS 55 standard.
Mott MacDonald’s power team has worked on numerous projects in Poland on behalf of equity investors, lenders, owners, and developers.
We have acted as lenders' engineer on the 460-megawatt Stalowa Wola combined-cycle gas turbine power station and the Nowa Sarzyna cogeneration plant as well as lenders’ technical advisor on three wind energy developments.
We also served as owner's engineer for the development of a combined heat and power plant in Chorzów, and are currently technical advisor on the Elektrownia Polnoc ultra-supercritical coal-fired power project, expected to produce 1,500 to 3,000 megawatts.
Our health experts provided a training course for the State Sanitary Inspection department covering epidemiological surveillance, data analysis, critical management, and early warning and reaction systems. The training course formed a part of the wider "Modernization of communicable diseases surveillance and control system" program, which helped Poland adopt European Union public health surveillance standards.
