Water and environment
We were appointed by the Asian Development Bank to carry out climate change resilience planning and capacity building in Tajikistan. Our role involved assessing the vulnerability of Tajikistan’s water sector assets to climate impact. This included identifying and prioritizing vulnerable communities, ecosystems, and infrastructure. We identified adaptation and mitigation measures for climate change, demonstrated ways to integrate climate risk and resilience into core development planning, and prepared sector-based hazard management investment plans.
Health
We've been working with local nongovernment organizations and the Ministry of Health to provide training and program management on the HIV Containment and Migration, Dushanbe project, as part of the Dushanbe to Kyrgyz border road rehabilitation program. Mobility significantly spreads HIV. This project aimed to mitigate the increase of HIV/AIDS in targeted locations, prioritizing high-risk groups.
Poverty alleviation
With more than 80% of Tajikistan’s people living below the poverty line, we have been helping develop sustainable approaches to reduce poverty through knowledge sharing and consultation with local communities. We assisted the Asian Development Bank-funded poverty alleviation project, aimed at raising Tajikistan’s irrigated agricultural productivity.
The project set out to benefit the local community by raising farm productivity and rural household income as well as sustainably improving the environment through integrated assistance in rural infrastructure rehabilitation, institutional strengthening, improvement of agricultural production technologies, and marketing.
Education
Our education team helped prepare a manual for a teacher retraining program to support education reforms in two provinces, with a target of 70,000 teachers. Our work involved training local consultants to implement the program, and piloting and modifying training materials to ensure they were appropriate and relevant.
