Biography

Describe what the Mott Mac Life means to you in three words

Collaboration, growth, empowerment.

What do you enjoy about working here?

We are one of the few employee-owned companies, we don’t have external shareholders, investors or trustees and this is reflected in our culture. Everyone has a sense of ownership and is working together very collaboratively as one team for the betterment of our society.

Tell us about your specialism and why you chose it

I am an architect by training and was heavily influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright and his organic architecture where he designed in harmony with humanity and nature.

In my early years, I led projects complying with green building certifications and pushing boundaries in energy and resource conservation. Now, many years later, I have a deeper appreciation  for sustainable design, and I am still finding new aspects of sustainability to explore as our relationship with nature keeps evolving.

Why did you choose to join Mott MacDonald?

I believe that Mott MacDonald  encourages staff to pursue technical excellence, and  create positive social outcomes in our projects, which really resonates with me.

How has your career progressed since joining? It has been phenomenal. I was lucky enough to be trusted to lead and grow teams. I now manage our environment and society market, covering all aspects of ESG.

What have you learnt while working at Mott MacDonald?

Somewhere in distant parts of Mott MacDonald, there will always be people with the right skills and experience willing to collaborate with you on projects. I’ve had the opportunity to travel between our offices across Asia, depending on our business development and project needs, so am lucky to have built a strong network of colleagues who can help me find others to collaborate with across our wider global business.

How do you demonstrate Technical Excellence in your work?

I am a firm believer in reviews. Our projects should start with an inception review, have regular technical reviews and conclude with a review of lessons learnt at the end of the project.

This will add to our knowledge of what works and what doesn’t to improve our delivery.

How do you contribute to Mott MacDonald making a difference to people and the planet?

My goal is to instil sustainability and climate change considerations in all phases of our design. Sustainability shouldn’t be a standalone discipline but should be embedded in how we design projects and provide advice to our clients.

What are your career highlights and achievements?

Too many to single out, but a highlight is every time one of our projects receives an award or one of my team members is recognised with an award.

Are you involved in any additional initiatives at Mott MacDonald, aside from your day-to-day role?

I am looking after our internal decarbonisation effort of our operations in Asia, contributing to our global target to be net zero by 2040.
