Mott MacDonald is seeking a highly experienced Principal Market Leader within the CEI industry for our Raleigh, NC office. This role will develop the CEI team within the North Carolina region by owning and delivering top work.
This Construction Services Market Lead role is a key leadership role in Mott MacDonald responsible for developing and maintaining client and stakeholder relationships, identifying, and building a pipeline of opportunities and winning work within the state of North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. (DOT, major municipalities and transportation agencies as a client base), as it relates to Construction Engineering & Inspection Services (CE&I).
Working under the direct supervision of the South Division Manager, this position ensures we engage the right clients in a meaningful way and are competitive in the marketplace. The Construction Services Market Lead is instrumental in supporting a team of seller/doer’s and Account Leaders to manage and build the right capability and focus on the business to convert prospects into revenue. A key aspect of this role is to closely coordinate with the South Division Manager in developing and implementing the Unit’s strategy and business planning as well as supporting and developing effective seller/doer and account leadership through coaching, directing and role modeling.
General Responsibilities:

- Advising on promotion, salary and training of the staff in the Group
- Managing the CE&I Leads, advising on team structure, and actively mentoring, coaching, and planning for succession
- Collaborating with other Group leads to maximize the effectiveness of existing resources
- Managing the utilization of resources (short-term and long-term), including planning and forecasting for critical project and opportunity resourcing
- Plan and lead the hiring of new staff – identifying gaps in the team, filling them, and planning for growth in alignment with the Regional strategic objectives
- Participating in and actively contributing to Divisional operational matters and proactively cascade information regularly from Region/Unit updates
- Visible leadership with internal and external representation
- Winning work – working with Strategic Market and Account Leads to pursue opportunities, supporting Business Development as necessary
- Doing work – supporting multi-disciplinary projects, focusing on compliance & innovation
Key Responsibilities:
- Meeting sales goals and other KPIs identified for the role.
- Define and prioritize clients, identify and engage emerging clients, lead strategic decisions on which clients to pursue/not to pursue and ensure a healthy pipeline of revenue opportunities.
- Actively participate in key customer interactions and engagement and hold assigned key client relationships at a senior level.
- Be the face of Mott MacDonald at industry events, client board meetings, etc
- Support the South Division Manager to build an industry leading, client focused team of professionals for Construction Engineering & Inspection (CE&I).
- Ensure the development and implementation of strategic client engagement and ambition plans.
- Raise Mott MacDonald’s profile through enhanced industry and media presence.
- Role model and champion the use of Mott MacDonald’s CAPTURE and WIN processes for new projects and pursuits.
- Be accountable for the use of the CRM for account and opportunity tracking, pipeline health, resource planning, etc.
- Support proposal and interview preparation efforts, as it relates to key pursuits, to ensure the development of strategic, customized proposal responses, including understanding of the scope, plan, approach, past performance, and personnel.
- Champion the account leader model and take a leading role in motivating, directing and developing our account leader community.
- Serve as a Principal Account Leader or Account Leader as applicable.
- Build the right capabilities in the Division (recruiting and hiring key staff in for the CEI teams) to convert opportunities into revenue.
- Provide support in preparing the annual business plan and strategies for growth in assigned region transportation market.
- Closely collaborate with Divisional leadership to maintain strong focus and ensure we deliver against business plans and strategies.
- Detect key themes and trends in the marketplace, communicate them effectively across the business and drive appropriate action.
- Be accountable for business development and proposal budgets.
- Available to utilize technical skills and resume to assist in positioning for and winning work with key clients.
- Experience managing conventional and alternative delivery projects
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and overall quality control and management
We invite applications from candidates with the following experience:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensed in North Carolina
- 20+ years experience in construction management of civil highway and bridge projects
- Preferable experience with NCDOT projects; working knowledge of the construction and administrative procedures and programs
