Mott MacDonald is excited to be looking for a Deputy Construction Manager to join our expanding construction management team in Vancouver, BC. We are currently looking for a professional with experience in the construction of large underground infrastructure and/or tunnelling projects.   

 

The Deputy Construction Manager will be responsible for: 

 

  • Key member of a site-based construction management team supporting the successful delivery of a new tunnel, including participating in project meetings, review of contractor submittals, site safety inspections and general contract administration duties.  

  • Collaborates closely with the owner, contractor and resident engineer to resolve issues to keep the project on time and schedule. 

  • Monitors and evaluates contractor performance for compliance with contract requirements. 

  • Tracks and reports on construction progress and schedule adherence, highlighting key risks and mitigation strategies. 

  • Prepares correspondence including letters, memos and reports. 

  • Contributes to the commercial process, including review and validation of contractor payment applications. 

  • Undertakes construction claims analysis and develops resolution recommendations to support efficient project delivery. 

  • Coordinates with safety, environment, quality assurance, and inspection teams to maintain compliance and performance standards. 

 

Candidate Specification:


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Mining, Geological Engineering or related discipline 

  • Professional Engineer / Chartered Engineer Registration is preferred. 

  • Ten (10) years’ experience in the construction management of large civil infrastructure projects, preferably including underground works such as shaft construction and/or tunnelling. 

  • Possess good technical writing and communication skills necessary to perform the deputy construction manager’s position, supporting the construction manager in evaluating and responding to correspondence as well as leading meetings between the client and the contractor in the construction manager’s absence. 

  • Experience preparing or reviewing cost estimates and/or construction claims is preferred. 

  • Prior experience working on projects with public sector clients would be an asset. 

  • Prior experience working on projects in urban areas with traffic, noise and public interface considerations would be an asset. 

  • Driven to achieve goals and deliver commercial success 

  • Capability to work closely with a range of stakeholders is essential providing a pragmatic, effective and successful solution to engineering challenges any project may present.

  • Able to work up to 10 hours per day on site based on project assignment schedules.

In compliance with the B.C. Pay Transparency Act, the expected salary range is from $125,000 - $152,000.

Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate's actual salary within the expected range.
