Mott MacDonald is seeking a dynamic, commercially minded leader to spearhead our Energy market growth across North America. This is a high-visibility, outward-facing role for a seasoned professional with strong relationships, strategic insight, and a passion for shaping the future of energy infrastructure.
As the North America Energy Market Leader, you will set the market vision, deepen senior-level client relationships, drive major pursuits, and position Mott MacDonald as a trusted advisor across the energy transition.
North America’s energy landscape is undergoing rapid transformation - from grid expansion and interconnection reform to explosive growth in renewables and storage, to evolving regulatory frameworks for pipelines, hydro, and transmission.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and implement, in collaboration with Energy practice leadership, a strategic growth plan for the North American Energy market, including pipelines, renewables, storage, linear energy, and hydro/pumped storage.
- Serve as a primary point of contact with energy clients, utilities, developers, and regulatory agencies, building strong, trusted senior-level relationships.
- Lead client engagement and business development efforts by identifying, generating, and advancing major Energy sector opportunities across the region.
- Identify, attract, and support the recruitment of high-caliber energy and infrastructure talent to scale the market and strengthen delivery capabilities.
- Actively build and enhance the Mott MacDonald brand within the North American Energy sector, elevating visibility and thought leadership.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and guidance to technical and business development staff, particularly in strategic account management and pursuit excellence.
- Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, clients, regulatory bodies, contractors, and partners across the Energy ecosystem.
- Prepare and contribute to written reports, strategic plans, client positioning materials, and other market-facing content.
- Represent the firm through active participation in industry organizations, energy trade groups, and professional associations.
- Maintain a visible presence at regional and national energy-sector conferences and market events.

- Develop and execute strategies that enable sustainable, long-term growth of the Energy market portfolio.
- Advise on emerging Energy market trends, regulatory changes, and client needs to drive new business development.
- Manage and support Discipline Leads through team structuring, mentoring, coaching, and succession planning aligned to Energy market growth.
- Collaborate with other Group Leads to develop and grow target accounts across multiple infrastructure and energy-transition sectors.
- Actively participate in Divisional and Unit business development initiatives and proactively cascade relevant updates to regional and market teams
Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred (engineering, business, or related field).
- Significant experience driving growth in the North American Energy market, with expertise in one or more of the following: pipelines/midstream, utility‑scale renewables, energy storage, hydro/pumped storage, or transmission & distribution.
- Proven ability to develop and execute market strategies that deliver revenue growth, margin, and improved win rates.
- Strong executive‑level client relationships with utilities, developers, energy infrastructure owners, agencies, and/or investors.
- Demonstrated success leading large, complex pursuits, including shaping winning strategies and closing multimillion‑dollar opportunities.
- Solid understanding of the regulatory, policy, and permitting environment impacting energy development in North America.
- Experience translating regulatory and market change into client value and growth opportunities.
- Track record of building and maintaining strategic partnerships with EPCs, OEMs, specialty firms, and small/disadvantaged businesses.
- Experience leading, mentoring, and developing high‑performing business development and capture teams.
- Strong commercial judgment, executive communication skills, and leadership presence.
- Ability to collaborate across regions and leverage global expertise to deliver integrated solutions.
