Overview of the role
We are looking for an experienced marketing and operations professional to join our team, working closely with the Marketing and Operations Lead, and line managing two positions to take responsibility for driving our busy events and awards programme, as well as function wide operational excellence. This will involve leading the delivery of major as well as smaller events, delivering needed event infrastructure and overseeing award activity, as well as operational rhythms, continuous improvement, ways of working, resource planning and prioritisation, and championing the workflow system.
Key responsibilities and duties include:
Events:
- Managing the approach and delivery of all event and award activity, ensuring the right infrastructure and approaches, whilst also leading the delivery of select priority events
- Working closely with the content and campaign teams, and Unit Leads, on event processes, promotions, content and communications, including event de-briefing and impact evaluation
- Collaborate closely with the Content team and your direct reports on the delivery of award submissions and communications as well as overseeing the overall delivery of the awards programme which is run by the Events & Awards Manager
- Responsible for some activity connected to priority sponsorships and some select institutional/member body engagements (e.g. Royal Academy of Engineering, National Railway Museum)
- Keep up-to-date with event best practice and emerging trends to ensure our approaches are best in class and that we deliver continuous improvement
Operations:
- Working closely with the Marketing and Operations Lead to shape and ensure operational excellence and continuous improvement across the whole function
- Drive operations across the function, addressing operational rhythms and ways of working, resource planning and prioritisation, use of our core workflow system (Connect Marketing) and driving function wide performance reporting
- Lead the process and delivery of the Client Loyalty Survey which is in development, and the process for all associated client interviews and client insights
- Line management of the Events and Awards Manager and Marketing Operations and Events Executive, providing support, development and encouragement to enable them to be at their best
- As a manager within the marketing function, contributing to ensure the overall success of the marketing function across the region, and having strong relationships across the Group marketing function, and regional counterparts where appropriate
Candidate specification
Essential:
- Relevant experience in running various events, from large exhibitions to small roundtables and webinars
- Demonstrable track record in successfully running complicated operational processes and programmes
- Proven skills in resource planning, workload prioritisation and project management
- Highly organised and able to work on a variety of tasks simultaneously with multiple stakeholders whilst keeping them informed about progress
- Exceptionally well organised with an understanding of developing appropriate, efficient and effective processes and ways of working
- Confident communicator, able to stay calm under pressure and deliver clear and reasoned recommendations and next steps
- Great team player who embodies our company values and culture, someone who focuses on the good of the business and function, as well as your own team
- Outstanding collaborator able to form trusted relationships, and the ability to welcome different perspectives, with empathy for the positions of others
- Experienced people manager who knows how to create an enjoyable team environment and support people to be themselves and be at their best
Desirable:
- Communication, media or public relations related degree, or other relevant qualifications from appropriate body
- Some understanding of consultancy, engineering, and/or the built environment
- Experience in managing people and knowing how to create an enjoyable team environment and support people to be themselves and be at their best
- Embrace diversity of thought and encourage change, challenge and new ideas
- Keen interest in developing your own skills, as well as the skills of others
