As a participant of our brand-new graduate program, launching in 2026, you’ll gain hands on experience across a variety of impactful projects. 

 

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Graduate Electrical Engineer. This individual will be assigned to support the primary discipline design engineer by modifying or creating technical specifications, calculations, and drawings in support of one or more power line projects.  The Graduate Engineer must be technically capable to learn through self-study and use specialty software programs to facilitate the design. The entry level engineer will monitor their own discipline-specific products, ensuring they are completed on schedule and within budget in accordance with the following:

 

  • Applicable federal, state, regional, and local laws and requirements, specifically state administrative codes, NESC, NES, and RUS
  • Client Standards and Specifications
  • Design lines under the tutelage of a senior engineer using manual and Power Line Systems, PLS, Suite of software.
  • Mott MacDonald’s Project Procedures.
  • Working with Engineering Project Engineers, Project Managers, and Supervisor to design the specific project products, calculations, specifications, drawings, and reports.
  • Ensuring that the Engineering work and Engineering support of Mott MacDonald is performed in a technically sound manner and completed in accordance with the Engineering Project Procedures and specific Contract requirements.
  • Verify the Quality and Compliance of deliverables.
  • Reviewing deliverables to ensure they are consistent, sound and compliant
  • Engineering/technical skills in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems.
  • Effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of personal work activities
  • Thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches.
  • Continuous improvement of job-related, engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills, and performance.
  • Accurate records and files.
  • Verifying that the Design Reviews have been performed and that Reviewer comments or issues raised are closed.

 
To be considered for this 2026 opportunity, here’s what you’ll need: 

 

Specific technical or other skills required:

 

  • Desired: Background in power system design for electrical alternating current (AC) underground and overhead lines.
  • Desired: Power system design experience in High Voltage and Extra High Voltage, direct current (DC) overhead and underground lines
  • Required: Strong familiarity with the MS Office Suite, especially excel
  • Required: Strong written and verbal communication skills.

 

 Under close Supervision the candidate will:

 

  • Produce detailed designs of underground and overhead distribution and transmission lines
  • Work with owners engineer and development support for renewable and other infrastructure projects
  • Projects may include: On and Off shore wind, Solar, Battery Storage, Power Line studies

 

Software or specialized equipment skills:

 

  • Desired Experience with some technical applications such as: CDEGS, PLS CADD; CymCAPP; ETAP; AutoCAD; Bentley; etc. 
  • Required: Excel, Word and Microsoft office suite

 

Other Pertinent Data

 

  • P.E. License: Not Required however the candidate must be authorized and able to apply and obtain a PE License within four years.  Passing score on the EIT exam is preferred
  • Desired College Degree:  BS Electrical Engineering preferred.  Other Engineering disciplines considered

 

This position is located in Austin, TX. You must be able to reliably commute to our office in this location, per our hybrid working policy.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.

 

 

The expected salary for this position is $84,000-$93,000.
